“I don’t want to protect the environment. I want to create a world where the environment doesn’t need protecting”

The essence of our studio is to build an environment which gives future generations a better scope to live. Architecture is a unique subject and one that spans multiple disciplines, it can be a force for change but also the cause.

When we began, our commitment was to be agitators and disrupt the current discourse. This meant seeking out a more sensitive form of architecture, one that is conscious of its environment whilst preserving spatial integrity.

The first agenda was to educate and grant freedom of information to the basis of what ecological design can be. Everyone talks about the practicalities of recycling or even over consumption but the reality is far more nuanced. It requires a collective movement, a need to make changes deliberately.

We think about structure as a living organism and one which is dependant on its constituent parts. Therefore an opening isn't just an opportunity for glazing to be housed but another portal for sunlight to permeate. Everything within a building is about equilibrium, a symbiotic relationship between an occupant and the physical entity. As construction contributes to 40% of total carbon emissions, the need for evolution is inevitable.

This statistic is our guide to a more pure form of design. That's why we aim to motivate each client and stimulate conversation at all phases, in order to make choices which benefit our communities. This includes guiding the discussion over construction methodology away from traditional forms towards a new alternative. Rules are there to be disrupted and we need to seek out something less harmful to our planet.

Its simple really, we are keen to save our future. Even if its incremental changes, the smallest variance will eventually lead towards a harmonious marriage of built-ecology.

Our commitments arent short sighted, we belong to a number of dedicated boards which hold an accountability towards retaining a level of conscious, sustainable design. Even RIBA, the governing body for architecture has confronted current status quo and established a climate challenge for all designers to uphold.

In the end, we are just a couple of designers in Essex trying to make seismic changes to an industry centuries old. Wish us luck.
